WINTER 2014 EDUCATION CLASSES
The focus of Stages classes is on theatre education. The purpose is to develop and expand performing skills in a supportive, nurturing environment. All classes culminate with a presentation during the last class to provide an opportunity for the students to share their new skills. The demonstration is for the students abilities to shine!
Sound Exploration Workshop (Beginner) – David Kostyk (7th – 12th)
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the world of theater tech, now’s your chance! STAGES is happy to announce a new workshop for basic introduction to audio for theater! Conducted by STAGES’ own audio designer David Kostyk, students grades 7–12 are welcome to sign up for a unique opportunity to gain some hands-on experience with theater audio and its related equipment. The two-day workshop will help participants better understand audio as it relates to theater, including the basics of mics and speakers, operation of the soundboard, and other skills such as equalization, compression, and creating basic sound effects. The workshop will be held as two, two-hour sessions, on April 7 & 8.
Sound Exploration Workshop (Advanced) – David Kostyk (7th – 12th)
You’ve learned the basics and are ready to dig even deeper into what makes a good sound design, troubleshooting problems, setup and strike. Conducted by STAGES’ own audio designer David Kostyk, students grades 7–12 are welcome to sign up for a unique opportunity to gain more hands-on experience with theater audio and its related equipment. The two-day workshop will help participants better understand audio as it relates to theater. The workshop will be held as two, two-hour sessions, on April 21 & 23. Prior completion of the Beginner Sound Exploration Workshop is highly recommended.
Lights Up! Design Workshop – Tom Pembrook (7th – 12th)
Learn lighting basics and more! … including lighting terms, programming the light board, tone, gel, shadows, pools of light, wash, and follow spot. The “how” will be taught as well as the “why.” This hands-on workshop will leave you with skills that serve as a foundation of knowledge to open doors and turn on lights for you at Stages and around town! Workshop pace will match the skills and knowledge of the participants. This series is taught by Stages Technical Director, Tom Pembrook. The lighting workshop will be held as two two-hour sessions on March 25 & March 27, from 4 – 6PM.
